Budget: 59.357.214€

The main objective of "Runway Expansion at the A Coruna Airport" project is to extend 400m the length of the airfield from Threshold 03 and Runway End 21. After construction, the runway safety strip has a width of 300 m (150 m on each side of its centerline) and a length of 60 m before Threshold 03. A blast pad or safety area for protection against jet streams shall be provided before Threshold 03, as well as a Runway End Safety Area (RESA) and a free of obstacles clearway area (CWY). A turning pad shall be also build at the runway end to allow aircrafts to turn 180º.

Flexible paving of 30,000 m2 for the runway expansion.


Storm drainage system to drain rainwater from paved areas of the runway. Installation of new hydrocarbon separation plants (PSH) for treatment of hydrocarbon discharges.


Precision approach path indicator (PAPI), identification of threshold 03 at runway header.

Light systems for runway edges, centerline, threshold, wing bars and runway end. Light systems for turning pad apron and taxiway edges.

Antenna and facilities for LOC of ILS removal and relocation at the new position at 155 meters from the new THR 03.


Existing paint removal and marking of new signing elements on runway header, threshold, touch down zone, aiming point, and turning pad.


Threshold 03 and Runway End 21 were displaced 60m from its original position to minimize the operational impact on the runway due to the construction works.
